The national football team of Libya, also known as the Mediterranean Knights, has undergone a significant change as they prepare to face Nigeria in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The Libya Football Federation has appointed Nasser Al-Hadiri as the new head coach of the national team, less than three weeks to their clash with Nigeria.

Al-Hadiri is expected to succeed Serbian tactician, Milutin Sredojevic, who was relieved of his duties due to the team’s poor performance in the qualifying series.

Assisting Al-Hadiri will be Abu Bakr Al-Harak, while Misbah Shangab will take on the role of goalkeeper coach.

Al-Hadiri brings valuable experience to the position, having previously served as an assistant coach to Spaniard Javier Clemente in the Libyan national team in 2014.

Abdul Hakim Al-Shalmani, President of the Libya Football Federation, expressed the organization’s satisfaction with the agreement reached with Al-Hadiri to lead the team.

The upcoming challenge for the Mediterranean Knights is a crucial match against the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

The qualifier will take place in Uyo on Friday, October 11, followed by a return leg in Benina four days later.

Note that while Nigeria are topping Group D with four points after two games, Libya are occupying the bottom of the group with one point in two games.
