Manchester United’s captain, Bruno Fernandes, has expressed his thoughts following the club’s decision to part ways with Erik ten Hag as manager.

The decision to terminate Ten Hag’s contract came after a disappointing 2-1 defeat to West Ham on Sunday, which marked another setback for the team in their ongoing struggle this season.

In a heartfelt message shared on Instagram, Fernandes acknowledged the challenging period the team has experienced.

The Portuguese footballer wrote, “Thanks for everything, boss! I appreciate the trust and the moments we share, and I wish you all the best.”

He also emphasized the need for fans to remember the positive contributions ten Hag made during his tenure: “Even knowing the last period hasn’t been great from all of us, I hope you fans can keep with you the good things Erik has done for our club.”

In light of the managerial change, United has appointed former striker Ruud van Nistelrooy as the interim manager.

Van Nistelrooy, a legendary figure at the club, joined Ten Hag’s coaching staff last season and will now step into the lead role while the club searches for a permanent replacement.

Meanwhile, former Manchester United goalkeeper, Peter Schmeichel has voiced his views on the decision to name Van Nistelrooy as interim manager.

Speaking on the Kelly and Wrighty show, Schmeichel admitted that he harbours uncertainty regarding Van Nistelrooy’s capabilities as a coach.

“I don’t know how good a manager Ruud van Nistelrooy is,” he acknowledged, highlighting that while he has no doubts about Van Nistelrooy’s skills as a player, coaching brings a different set of challenges.

Schmeichel continued, “He was a very good player, and if he can replicate some of his playing form as a manager, he has a good chance of thriving in this role.”

He also pointed out that Erik ten Hag may not have received adequate support during his time at the club, suggesting that the challenges faced by the former manager were compounded by a lack of backing from the institution.
