Edo Polls: NAF Begins Airlifting Of Election Materials Ahead Of September 21

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has initiated the transportation of election materials for the forthcoming September 21 governorship election in Edo State.

On Wednesday, a statement released by Kabiru Ali, the Deputy Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force, indicated that this initiative is part of a comprehensive strategy to guarantee the prompt and secure delivery of essential materials required for the effective execution of the elections.

According to him, the exercise demonstrates the collaboration between the force and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Benin, Edo State (INEC).

He said, “The airlift operation demonstrates the collaboration between NAF and INEC, aimed at facilitating logistics and ensuring a peaceful election process in Edo State.”

Earlier, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, during a recent meeting with the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, reiterated NAF’s commitment to providing airlift for the swift movement of electoral materials.

Edo Election: We Will Remain Professional, Impartial – Police

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police has assured that its personnel will remain professional and impartial during the Edo State governorship election.

Naija News reported that Edo governorship election would be held on Saturday, September 21.

The statement comes amid allegations from the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo.

Governor Obaseki and Ighodalo accused the police of supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate, Monday Okpebholo.

They also accused the police of arresting stakeholders and supporters of the PDP without giving details of where they were taken to.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuwiya Adejobi, in a statement on Monday, stated that the police would not abuse its impartiality.

“We are ready for the gubernatorial election in Edo State. Police will remain professional, impartial, and committed to providing adequate security for the electoral process.

“All the parties, their candidates, electorates, and stakeholders in general will be protected. Let everyone play his role as provided for in EA 2022 and in line with our responsibilities, and we will have it free, fair, and credible. There is no room for thuggery, hooliganism, and vandalism in any part of the state.

“These are our promises. Peace be unto Edo people and Nigerians at large,”
Adejobi wrote on his X handle.
