The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced a three-month deadline for owners of uncompleted and undeveloped properties in the Federal Capital City to either commence development on their buildings or face the possibility of demolition.
This warning was noted in a statement released to the media on Monday night and signed by Felix Obuah, the Coordinator of the Abuja Municipal Management Council.
The FCTA indicated that this ultimatum was prompted by an increase in the number of shanties and unauthorized constructions throughout the Federal Capital City.
Obuah stressed that these undeveloped properties have become havens for individuals of dubious character, thereby posing a security threat to the local community.
He cautioned that if property owners do not initiate development within the specified timeframe, they risk having their land titles revoked and their structures demolished.
“The FCT Administration has noted with concern the rapid expansion of shanties and squatters within uncompleted buildings and undeveloped plots across the Federal Capital City. The Administration has also observed that these buildings and plots are being used as hideouts by men of questionable character, thereby posing a serious security challenge to residents.
“In view of the foregoing, all owners of these abandoned and uncompleted buildings, as well as undeveloped plots, are hereby directed to immediately develop and secure the properties within three months from the date of this announcement.
“Failure to comply with this directive may result in appropriate actions, including the revocation of titles and the demolition of such abandoned structures,” the statement read.

Two weeks ago, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) issued a stern warning to prominent Nigerians and corporate organizations, threatening to revoke the Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O) for plots of land in the Maitama District of Abuja.
The ultimatum comes as a result of outstanding payments that must be settled within two weeks.
In a notice addressed to 3,273 allottees of the plots, the FCTA outlined the urgency of the situation, emphasizing the need for compliance to avoid penalties.
The notice, titled “Demand Notice for Payment of Right of Occupancy Bills for Issuance of Certificates of Occupancy on All Lands Allocated at Maitama II District, Cadastral Zone A10, Abuja,” was seen by newsmen in Abuja.
According to Premium Times, the announcement has sent ripples of concern among the affected landowners, many of whom are high-profile individuals and established corporations.
Among those listed as as owners of the plots are the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen; Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, and former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege,
Others are former Governors Theodore Orji (Abia), Rochas Okorocha (Abia), Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), Tanko Al-Makura (Nasarawa), Joshua Dariye (Plateau), Gabriel Suswam (Benue), Ibrahim Shekarau (Kano), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Jonah Jang (Plateau), Seriake Dickson (Bayelsa), Adamu Muazu (Bauchi) and Bukar Abba Ibrahim (Yobe).
