Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, has officially sworn in the newly elected chairmen and vice chairmen of the 21 local government areas in the state, emphasizing the importance of dedication to the communities they serve.

The ceremony took place at the government house in Lokoja, as confirmed by Ismaila Isah, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity.

During his address, Governor Ododo urged the new local government leaders to maintain the momentum of development at the grassroots level by initiating projects and programs aimed at enhancing the quality of life for the residents.

He stressed the necessity of ensuring the security of lives and property while encouraging the chairmen to align their initiatives with the administration’s signature programs in health, agriculture, social welfare, and empowerment initiatives.

“There is a need for you to be transparent and accountable in running the affairs of the local government,” Ododo stated.

He reminded the new leaders that their election represents an opportunity to reinforce the autonomy of local government administration, prioritizing issues that have a direct, positive impact on the lives of their constituents.

Describing local government as the most crucial tier of government closest to the people, Governor Ododo urged the chairmen to actively involve the community in their activities and foster the inclusion of all stakeholders in the decision-making process.

He reiterated that local governance should not only be visible but also tangible, aligning with his administration’s goal of bringing governance closer to the populace.

In response, Tosin Olokun, the chairman of Yagba West Local Government Area, spoke on behalf of the newly sworn-in chairmen.

He assured the governor of their commitment to complement the state government’s efforts by launching transformative projects and programs at the grassroots level.

Olokun also pledged to foster unity among the residents, irrespective of political affiliations, in line with Governor Ododo’s agenda for state development and cohesion.
