The WhatsApp number of the Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, has been hacked by fraudsters.
This was made known in a statement on Friday by the Director, Press & PR, Ministry of Education, Boriowo Folasade.
The statement explained unauthorized persons have taken control of the Minister’s Whatsapp number and warned members of the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity on the number.
Boriowo added that the matter has been reported to relevant authorities for further action.
In the meantime, members of the public were urged to disregard any message of request received from the number.
The statement read: “The Office of the Honourable Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, wishes to inform the general public that the Minister’s WhatsApp number has been hacked and is currently being used by unauthorised individuals.
“We deeply regret any inconvenience this may cause and urge everyone to disregard any message of request received from the said number until further notice.
“The matter has been reported to the relevant authorities and is under investigation. We advise all members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.”
Meanwhile, the Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, has defended the decision of the current administration to prevent students under 18 years of age from writing the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
Speaking on Thursday during the Inter-Ministerial Press Briefing in Abuja, Mamman said the ban is in line with the nation’s laws and its educational policies.
He also argued that the policy is not a new one, but the administration of President Bola Tinubu is only implementing what the law says.
The Minister maintained that from 2025, candidates below 18 will not be allowed to sit for the SSCE, adding that in the long run, Nigerians would come to see that the policy is beneficial.
