The Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KADSIECOM) has screened 79 candidates for chairmanship positions in preparation for the upcoming local government elections.
Naija News understands that the state’s local government election is scheduled for October 19, featuring candidates from 10 different political parties who have undergone the screening process.
In a statement made available to newsmen on Monday (today), the KADSIECOM Commissioner for Public Affairs and Information, Prof. Joseph Gambo, noted that the commission is currently unable to provide an exact count of candidates contesting for councilorship positions, as the list is still being compiled due to the large number of applicants.
“We have 10 political parties that have been screened. They are APGA, APC, PDP, NNPP, PRP, LP, YPP, ADC, ZLP, and AA. About 79 chairmanship candidates were screened across the 10 political parties,” he said.
Joseph assured that the commission would adhere to the election schedule as outlined on July 15, 2024.
He emphasized that the commission had consistently followed the timetable, completed all scheduled activities, and confirmed that the election was set for October 19.
Additionally, he guaranteed all political parties that KAD-SIECOM would create a conducive environment for the election to occur.
