The Lagos State Police Command has launched a manhunt for a man identified as Ganiyu Ibrahim, who is currently on the run after allegedly stabbing his cousin, Afeez Akeem, to death.
Naija News reports that the command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement on Tuesday, said Ibrahim and Akeem were involved in an altercation that escalated into a physical confrontation.
During the clash, Ibrahim reportedly broke a bottle and stabbed Akeem in the chest.
Hundeyin said that while detectives were mobilized to investigate the scene, Ibrahim fled immediately after the incident, and efforts were being made to apprehend him.
He noted that the deceased’s family declined an autopsy, choosing to bury Akeem according to Islamic rites.
The statement reads: “Today, 14/10/2024, at about 7 PM, a complainant reported that her son, Ganiyu Ibrahim, and her nephew, Afeez Akeem, had a misunderstanding that led to a physical fight. Ganiyu broke a bottle and stabbed Afeez on the left side of his chest. The victim was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.
“A team of detectives was immediately mobilised to the scene, and photographs were taken.
“The suspect is at large. Investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to apprehend the fleeing suspect.”
