Operatives Thwart Attack On Imo Divisional Police Headquarters

Operatives from the Imo State command of the Nigeria Police Force successfully thwarted an assault yesterday (Sunday) on the Njaba Divisional Headquarters, which was carried out by individuals believed to be associated with the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed faction, the Eastern Security Network.

A statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, indicated that the assailants arrived in three SUVs and initiated a violent attack on the headquarters, characterized by sporadic gunfire.

In a swift and courageous response, the police operatives took defensive positions and engaged the attackers, resulting in the elimination of three of them. The remaining assailants, who suffered various gunshot wounds, retreated into the surrounding bushes.

During the confrontation, law enforcement recovered a General Purpose Machine Gun, an AK-47 rifle, and three vehicles, including a Toyota Lexus 470, a Mercedes GLK, and a Toyota Venza, as reported by the police spokesperson.

Okoye further stated that the state Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, is currently spearheading a comprehensive operation aimed at capturing the fleeing suspects.

The State Commissioner of Police praised the courageous work of the operatives and promised the citizens that the authority is dedicated to improving the state’s safety from within and will persist in taking strong measures against any challenges to public tranquillity.

Naija News understands that at the beginning of September 2024, armed attackers murdered two members of a vigilante group and a police officer following a fire at the Obowo Police Station in the region.

The attackers also set fire to several vehicles left unattended at the local government office.
