PDP G5 Governors Meet In Abuja (Photo)

The G5 group of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, held a crucial meeting in Abuja on Friday.

This influential coalition includes prominent figures such as Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde and former governors Samuel Ortom (Benue), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia).

A reliable source, who preferred to remain anonymous due to the sensitive nature of the discussions, revealed to Punch that the meeting aimed to address pressing issues within the party as it navigates its current political landscape.

The G5 group, known for its pivotal role in the party’s dynamics, has been vocal about its demands and the need for strategic changes.

In the lead-up to the 2023 Presidential election, the G5 made significant demands, notably insisting on the replacement of then-PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, with a Southern representative as a condition for supporting the party’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

However, this demand was ultimately rejected, leading to internal divisions. Some members of the G5 either openly or discreetly opposed Atiku, contributing to his electoral defeat.

The source stated, “Yes, they met briefly on Friday to discuss as friends and brothers. The discussion centered on the PDP and other issues they considered important. They also review their strategies. They may still meet tomorrow (Saturday).”
