Super Eagles duo, Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen have earned nominations for the 2024 International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) Men’s World Best Player award.
This recognition places Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen among an elite group of 30 nominees vying for one of the football world’s highest honours.
Ademola Lookman has made a significant impact during the previous season, particularly highlighted by his instrumental role in Atalanta’s triumph in the UEFA Europa League.
The 27-year-old winger showcased his remarkable skills by delivering a stunning hat-trick in the final match against Bayer Leverkusen, which ultimately led his team to victory.
Additionally, Lookman demonstrated his prowess on the international stage, contributing three goals in seven appearances for the Nigerian national team during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Lookman’s performance has also earned him a nomination for the 2024 Africa Player of the Year Award, an accolade he is favourite to win.
On the other hand, Victor Osimhen has had an impressive season as well. The 25-year-old striker made a strong mark at Napoli, scoring 15 goals in 25 league appearances, which played a crucial role in his team’s successes.
Currently, Osimhen is on loan at Galatasaray, the champions of the Turkish Super Lig, where he is expected to continue his impressive form.
The previous winner of this prestigious award was Manchester City forward Erling Haaland, who captured the title last season.
