The Super Eagles of Nigeria have ascended three places to reach the 36th position in the latest FIFA rankings released this October.

Accumulating a total of 1503.29 points, Nigeria’s national football team has shown significant progress in both global and continental football standings.

The rise in the rankings comes after the Super Eagles secured a narrow victory over Libya with a lone goal during the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on October 11 in Uyo.

This victory not only boosted their world ranking but also enhanced their position in Africa, where they now rank fourth, climbing from the sixth spot they held in September. They trail behind Morocco, Senegal, and Egypt in the continental lineup.

This ranking update was part of a broader assessment by FIFA, which also considered performances in the 32 qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup 2026, 47 matches for the CAF Africa Cup of Nations 2025, 79 Nations League matches, and 17 friendly games played during the recent international window.

The extensive football activity during the month contributed to shifts in the FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking globally.

Internationally, Argentina continues to lead the rankings at the top position, though its lead over France (2nd) and Spain (3rd) has narrowed.

Other noteworthy movements include Portugal rising to the 7th spot and Italy climbing to the 9th, while the Netherlands and Colombia experienced slight drops.

Significant progress was also noted among other nations, with Algeria climbing four places to 37th, Peru advancing five spots to 38th, and Greece making a notable six-spot jump to 42nd. Cameroon made a return to the top 50, now ranked 49th.

Among other African nations, Equatorial Guinea and Zimbabwe have made notable progress, rising six and seven spots, respectively.

The Gambia and Botswana have also seen substantial advancements in their rankings, with Botswana, in particular, making the largest overall jump in terms of points gained.
