The Federal Executive Council (FEC), under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has approved significant changes to the structure of the Nigerian government.

Key decisions include the dissolution of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs and the Ministry of Sports Development, effective immediately.

In place of the Niger Delta Ministry, a new Ministry of Regional Development will oversee all regional development commissions.

This includes handling responsibilities for agencies such as the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and other regional bodies like the North West, South West, and North East Development Commissions.

Additionally, the functions of the former Ministry of Sports Development will now be managed by the National Sports Commission, which is expected to take charge of sports-related activities and policies across the nation.

The FEC also greenlit the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy, aiming to streamline efforts in boosting Nigeria’s tourism and creative sectors.

These changes were finalized at a FEC meeting held in Abuja today, signaling a major restructuring in the Tinubu administration’s governance framework.
