Former Barcelona midfielder, Yaya Toure, has shared his thoughts on his best teammate at FC Barcelona.
Even though he played alongside football legends like Lionel Messi and Xavi, Yaya Toure surprisingly chose Andres Iniesta, who recently retired from professional football, as his best teammate at FC Barcelona.
According to Toure, while Messi and Xavi were exceptional players, Iniesta possessed a unique quality that set him apart.
Toure expressed his admiration for Iniesta’s playing style, noting that there was something extraordinary about the way the Spanish football icon approached the game.
While asked to pick his favourite teammate at FC Barcelona, according to Goal, the Ivorian football icon said, “Messi was top, Iniesta was top, Xavi was great, but I will say Iniesta.
“He had something different. Playing with him, wow! It was something else.”
Having been teammates with Messi, Iniesta, and Xavi during his time at Barcelona from 2007 to 2010, Toure’s preference for Iniesta as his best teammate offers an intriguing insight into the dynamics of the star-studded Barcelona team during that era.
After leaving Barcelona, Toure went on to play for Premier League champions Manchester City from 2010 to 2018. He retired from football in 2019. The 41-year-old former Ivory Coast international is currently the Saudi Arabia national team’s assistant coach.
